It has been a lifelong dream of SA cricketer AB de Villiers and his brother Jan de Villiers to open a guesthouse catering to the needs of local and international travelers. After careful consideration they decided that Waterkloof would be the ideal area for the niche guesthouse that they had in mind and started looking for the perfect property to renovate.The name choice spontaneously occurred one morning while eating breakfast close to the new guesthouse location. They were busy discussing how they could incorporate Pretoria’s nickname of the Jacaranda city, when one of the little flowers fell on AB’s plate. It was a sign! After a bit of research about the tree, they discovered that in Spain it’s called the Purple Trumpet tree.
Jan boasts with seven years’ experience in the restaurant industry, this combined with his love of preparing food and entertaining people, gives him a winning edge on the hospitality element of the guesthouse.
With its fully equipped conference facilities, the intimate space of the Purple Trumpet is perfect for private meetings. The restaurant and bar area can also be utilised for refreshing breaks between sessions and a relaxing environment at the end the day.
