Rare Cape Parrots, Loeries, Samango monkeys, as well as plants, insects and even frogs are found. Set at the heart of early frontier history, the Thyume valley was the seat of the Rarabe Xhosa chiefs. The thickly forested mountain reaches provided sanctuary for the Xhosa clans during the border wars. Early settlement of Hogsback arose from the development of forestry. Unit Amenities
- At Country Cottage Collection we go out of our way to spoil you, and give you all the home comforts and fine linens you'd enjoy. The two double beds in the Main Lodge are Victorian brass bedsteads. There are two single beds in the third bedroom Heaters and hot water bottles are provided. The double beds have electric blankets. There are two modern bathrooms, one with bath and one with shower and toilet. The second bathroom has a separate toilet.

- *The waterfalls range from a 10 minute easy stroll through the arboretum to the 39 Steps Waterfall, a pleasant and relatively long amble up the Upper Thyume, or the more difficult and steep Kettle Spout and Madonna & Child Waterfalls. *The huge Sandile Dam is only 35 minutes drive, and is excellent for bass fishing. No canoes are available for hire at this stage. Bring your own! *A variety of pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops offer friendly conversation around warm firesides, local interest and good food! Hogsback remains a destination to savoured. The warmth of its hospitality leaves fond memories and a desire to return.
